Welcome,

to my first post ever.
Alex will be the only one to ever maybe even think about reading this, but whatever.

So, my Great-Aunt is dying.

Not really a huge deal, considering that I only met her a few times when I was outrageously young, and we never really knew each other.
So she calls my Granny (her sister) and says she is close to death, and my 88 year-old grandmother promptly decides that she needs to go to Virginia to see her. Understandable, yes. Rational? Not very.
So preparations are underway for the road trip and she may be leaving as soon as tomorrow. No detail is being overlooked, because Death can't wait around for an unscheduled bathroom break or a flat tire.
My Granny has also decided that since my incapacitated mother can't make the journey, she needs a second escort. Of course my Aunt is driving her, but she needs someone to attend to her needs while on the road, a loving relation to put pillows under her head and buckle her seatbelt and unscrew the caps on her water bottles. A strong arm to help her in and out of the van, and a shoulder to cry on when the time eventually comes.
I have been taking care of my Granny since she moved in with us. I am the coffee maker, the pill bottle opener, the drink pourer. When she was in tears because she believed that we as a family had turned our backs on the big G-O-D, I took her to church. I turn on her electric blanket and set her alarm clock and get her a glass of water and turn off the radio. It's because of me my Gran can sleep comfortably and wake up when she needs to. I love her dearly, with my heart and soul and I would do anything to make her happy.

She wants my little sister to go with her.
